MFL playoffs, semi-final 1:
It was Red zone's turn to enter playoffs in this 1st semifinal set-up vs EL Fuego.
Season series were in favor of Red Zone (2-1-1).
Red Zone's bench was short of league top scorer, Simon Leblanc, while El Fuego fielded a full bench.
El Fuego took care of the early action and out shoot Red Zone over the first 10-minutes, perhaps due to Red Zone resting the past 2 weeks, cause they looked a bit rusty compared to El Fuego.
At the 8-minute mark El Fuego took the lead as Matthew Jeffrey was given room to advance into the offensive zone to release a weak shot that caught the back of Bertrand Nepveu's net. Richard Tetreault and Jean-Philippe Héon combined nicely to tie the game 5 minutes later. 2 minutes later Guillaume Lamy connected with Francois Bérubé for a 2-1 lead and just 10 seconds later Stéphane Laporte tied it with a quick shot. Red Zone took the lead 1 minute later as Aymeric Neveu was served by Laporte for a 3-2 lead. Guillaume Tittley tied it up with a good shot just 50 seconds later and another Lamy/Berubé combo closed the scoring for this period for a 4-3 advantage for El Fuego.
The 2nd period was 6 minutes old when a Red Zone defense man tried to pass the ball out of the defensive zone but the ball hit instead a fore checking Marie-Eve Cadieux of whom the ball bounced in the net. Laporte reduced to 4-5 but Pierre-Andre Chiasson put the lead back at 2 goals.
With 6 minutes to go Laporte completed his hat trick by reducing to 5-6 but yet another defensive mistake (own goal) put El Fuego's lead back at 7-5.
Red Zone fought back through, first Héon, and then Neveu to tie the game at 7-7 with just 2.30 left on the clock.
El Fuego was not done for the night though as they got the go ahead goal with 1.17 left through Berubé and just 5 seconds after that it was Lamy who scored the last goal of this game for a 9-7 final score.
Offensively both teams were making sure of taking their chances but defensively both teams have some serious adjustments to make in preparation for game2.
Top player credits on the night go to Laporte (3+2) on Red Zone while Berubé (2+2) was the hottest offensively for El Fuego.
Interesting decider to follow on Thursday next week!

MFL playoffs, quarter final 2:
El Fuego were armed with a 4-goal advantage vs an Innebandits team that were looking to fight themselves back into this series.
The game started with Innebandits taking control of the play while El Fuego seemed content to defending their overall lead.
Despite hitting the post twice, inspired goal tending from Maxime Turcotte and heavy domination it took the Innebandits until the 13 minute mark to get some visible results. Guillaume Rivet scored from close range, nicely set-up by Samuel Archambault to reduce the overall difference to 3 goals.
Innebandits had the one goal advantage as well as 12-3 in shots heading into the intermission.
The 2nd was less than 1 minute old when Alex Gauron advanced in to the offensive zone and released a high shot that found the net behind a screened Turcotte for a 2-0 lead. Needless to say next goal would be crucial for the series...
Unfortunately for Innebandits it was Guillaume Lamy who was able to reduce to 1-2 to give his team some breathing space.
A minute later El Fuego was on the power play but it was Innebandits who had most of the control and especially Steve Beliveau who won the ball in El Fuego's defensive zone, moved in from the first post and was able to flick the ball between Turcotte and his post for a 3-1 lead.
With 9-minutes to go there was still plenty of time for Innebandits to score the necessary 2 goals.
Despite continued domination and another shot off the post, time just seemed to tick down too quickly on this night. Pulling the goalie in the end did not help either and Francois Bérubé was able to secure the game with an empty netter with just 40 seconds to go for a 3-2 final score.
El Fuego advance to the semis but kudos to Innebandits for putting up a really good fight and maybe with some luck the final result would have been different.
Top players: Turcotte for El Fuego while the whole Innebandits team deserve credit for a spirited performance.

Outcasts were hoping the turn things around vs Team Finland as the one goal advantage from game 1 was not much of a cushion.
Once again though it was Team Finland who jumped to an early lead thanks to Okko Niskanen's quick reflexes as he buried a rebound from close range for a 1-0 lead 3-minutes into the game.
The 1st half was eventful with both teams creating their fair share of chances and Team Finland alone amassed 23 shots on Guoruey Wong in the Outcasts net. But thanks to good goal tending and with some help from the goal posts the game stayed at 1-0 to end the first.
In the 2nd period both teams cooled off some in the shooting department but were still able to light up the score board. At the 6-minute mark Jason Lemire advanced into the offensive zone and took a shot that Michael Quigley deflected in the net for an all important 2-goal lead.
Outcasts needed to score the next one in order to make a game of this and with 6 minutes to go, Nicole Hurtig did just that as she scored with a high shot from Christoph Rohner's pass. Outcasts needed more scoring though but instead it was Niskanen once again who scored with a nice individual effort to put this game beyond the Outcasts reach. And if it wasn't enough, Niskanen completed his hat-trick 30 seconds later after a nice up-field pass from Pasi Nurminen.
Despite another brave effort, Outcasts lose the 2nd game as well while the Finns advance to the semis.
Top players: Wong played his best game of the season (good timing!) but Jukka Hinttala played a strong game as well while Niskanen take the offensive credits on the night.

MFL playoffs, quarter final 1:
The match-up in the first playoff game of the 2011-12 season was between Team Finland (4th place) vs Outcasts IBC (6th place) and a season series advantage of 3-1 in games for the Finns.
It started in a great way for Team Finland as Okko Niskanen played a nice pass from behind the Outcasts net to an open Michael Quigley who finished with an easy tap in from close range.
30 seconds later, Eero Piilokivi picked off Niskanen with a long pass and who had no trouble rounding the goalkeeper for 2-0 lead.
Outcasts worked themselves back in to the game and created some good chances but it was the Finns who scored next thanks to a shot by Piilokivi.
Despite 2 power plays, Outcasts were not able to get anything past Jukka Hinttala and period ended with a 3-0 lead for Team Finland.
4-minutes into the 2nd, Outcasts finally scored as Jacques Stadlin ran in from the right side to score on a well aimed shot. Just a minute later, the Finns replied when Pasi Nurminen's wrister whistled past Guoruey Wong in the Outcast net.
With 12 minutes to go, Fabien Jeanneret passed of a quick free hit to an unmarked Guillaume Boivin-Dumais who scored with a nice one timer to put the score at 2-4. A minute later it was 3-4, this time through Charlie Simpkins who got off nice shot and to make the last 10 minutes very exciting.
A Team Finland power play at the 13 minute mark did not lead to any goals and as the time was winding down, the Finns got a break when Claus Frostell was given ample time in front of the net to tap in a rebound and give an important 2 goal lead for his team.
Outcasts were not done however as Stadlin scored his 2nd of the night with just 1 minute to go. But this was too little too late as the Finns were able to hold on for a 5-4 win.
Top players on the night: Stadlin and Jeanneret impressed for Outcasts while for the Finns it was a well rounded team effort that lead to the victory.
The final result give both teams a very good chance to win this series in game 2 a week from now.

In this battle of the 4th and 5th placed teams a tight game was in prospect, with El Fuego having a slight advantage with 2-1-1 in the season series.
3-minutes in, El Fuego took the lead as Guillaume Lamy and Pierre-Andre Chiasson combined nicely for Lamy to score the go ahead goal.
Much of the first period was evenly battled as both teams created some good chances but were denied by Joe Cadigal and Maxime Turcotte.
But with 4-minutes to go, the game was tied as Samuel Archambault ran into the El Fuego half and was able to score for a 1-1 game.
A minute later, El Fuego was on the power play and were able to take advantage as Lamy scored his 2nd of the night from a nice set-up from Francois Bérubé. With 40 seconds to go, Lamy completed his hat-trick with a shot to set the half time score at 3-1.
Second period continued with some tight and even play and it took until the 8 minute mark before El Fuego took a steady grip of this game by putting the score at 4-1. The goal itself was a classic floorball goal with net minder Turcotte releasing Berubé with quick pass upfield that Berubé was able to convert for a beauty.
Some drama ensued as Innebandits were convinced they had reduced the score to 2-4 but finally the goal was disallowed. Innebandits got another chance to reduce the score on a power play with 5 minutes to go but despite hard pressure were not able to get something past Turcotte.
Berubé completed the scoring for the night with his 2nd goal for a 5-1 score.
Top players: Both goalies played well but offensively it was Lamy and Berubé who made the difference. Innebandits have their work cut out in order to turn this series around.

March 1, 2012
Season series was in favor for Franco IBK over Else's Innebandits (2 wins, 1 loss).
Both teams showed up with short benches and Franco was down to no subs to start this one and also dressing Jonathan Burnham in the nets. Both these factors would come into play during the next 40 minutes.
Innebandits had more of the play to start the period were also helped by undisciplined play from Franco as they had 2 power plays but not able to capitalize. The period ended as it started thanks very much to spectacular goal tending from Burnham who came up big several times.
It continued the same way in the 2nd period, with Innebandits creating more and more chances but not being able to get anything past Burnham. Franco seemed to want to convert on counter attacks and long balls but lacking sharpness in the finishes.
With 9 minutes to go the game took an unfortunate turn for Franco as undisciplined play got them down to play short handed for the rest of the period. It took Innebandits 3 minutes to break the ice as Guillaume Rivet scored from close range from a nice set-up by Beliveau.
Despite the man advantage, Innebandits were not able to put anything more past Burnham and while Franco came close to equalizing, end up losing this one 0-1.
Top players: Who do you think? Burnham - who made the goalie performance of the season in making a total of 36 shots! Cadigal, while less busy, deserve credit for his first shutout of the season but also credit is due to Rivet for scoring the only goal of the game.

Season series was 2 wins to 1 in advantage for Team Finland over Outcasts IBC.
Team Finland was hoping to climb back to 3rd spot but were short their top scorer, Okko Niskanen on the night while Outcast came with a healthy roster and trying to keep up their late season form.
It took until mid-way of the 1st before there was any scoring and it was Claus Frostell who was able to convert from scramble in front of the net. Just 40 seconds later Pasi Nurminen flipped a pass towards the net and Fabien Jeanneret and Frostell were left to fight for the airborne ball, with Frostell getting the best of it as he was able to flick his 2nd goal on the volley.
Solid defensive play from both teams for the rest of the period left the score at 2-0 in favor of the Finns.
10 minutes into the 2nd the Finns were able to take advantage of a power play as Pekka Hujanen scored his 22nd goal of the season assisted by Michael Quigley.
With 30 seconds to go, Nurminen finalized the score to 4-0 on a break-away, as he was able to intercept a pass in his defensive zone and made his trade mark deak to get the ball past Guoruey Wong.
Team Finland move back to 3rd spot and close the gap to 1 point to Franco in 2nd place.
Both teams played a good defensive game but the Finns were sharper offensively on the night.
Top players: Both goalies deserve credit, with Jukka Hinttala being the less busy of the two but still walking away with his first career shutout.

February 28, 2012
Season series was tied between Red Zone and El Fuego (1 win each and 1 tie).
Both teams came armed with full rosters as Red Zone aimed to secure first spot in standings and El Fuego hoped to jump to 3rd spot and close in on 2nd.
The first 10 minutes was evenly fought as both teams created some decent chances but with Red Zone controlling most of the play. And it was Red Zone who drew first blood as Stéphane Laporte got the go ahead goal from a pass from Simon Leblanc. The same duo combined just 90 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. With 3 minutes to go, Matthew Jeffrey - who looked sharp on this evening, reduced to 1-2 but it was the duo of Laporte/Leblanc who had the last word in this period as Laporte completed his hat-trick for a 3-1 lead.
The 2nd period was 2 minutes old when Leblanc made it 4-1 but just 20 seconds later Cindy-Anne Carufel made it 2-4 as she directed from close range from a pretty set-up by Marie-Eve Cadieux.
Half way into the period it was once again Leblanc who scored as he was allowed to run towards the net and take a well aimed hard shot past Maxime Turcotte in the El Fuego net.
With 4 minutes to go Mathieu Fafard made it 3-5 and 30 seconds after that goal Jeffrey added his 2nd of the night to give this game an exciting end.
Leblanc was not done however as he had an easy finish from close rang after being set up by Laporte.
With 90 seconds to go, Francois Bérubé reduced to 5-6 to make it tight again and despite a late power play and a pulled goalie, El Fuego were not able to tie the game.
Top players: Leblanc (3+3) who move to 1st place in league scoring was behind all the Red Zone offensive output in combo with Laporte (3+1).
El Fuego demonstrated a great team effort but Jeffrey deserve some extra credit on the night.

Season series was in advantage for El Fuego (2 wins, 1 loss) vs Else's Innebandits.
For El Fuego it was a 2nd game for the evening (due to the rescheduling thanks to the student strike at the Cegep last week) while Innebandits had team leading scored Vincent Meslage back in the roster.
The first period was much dominated by Innebandits as El Fuego looked to be getting back their energy from the previous game. It was thanks to some spectacular goalkeeping from Maxime Turcotte that this period went scoreless.
The 2nd was a completely different story however as it took only 90 seconds for Francois Bérubé to one-time from close thanks to a clever backhand pass by Guillaume Lamy. For the next 6 minutes there was another 6 goals scored with Innebandits first equalizing through Meslage. Next Cindy-Anne Carufel deflected/lobbed over Joe Cadigal from close range and Pierre-Andre Chiasson added another pretty goal for a 3-1 lead. Guillaume Rivet reduced to 2-3 before Lamy and Chiasson combined nicely for 4-2. And finally Meslage scored his 2nd to get his team within one again.
With 5 minutes to go, Innebandits tied the game on the power play as Samuel Archambault deaked his defenseman and took a hard wrist shot past Turcotte.
The period was coming to an end but with 2 minutes to go, Berubé scored his 2nd of the night and seemed to secure 2 points for his team. Innebandits pulled their goalie and piled on the pressure and with just 12 seconds to go, Meslage completed his hat trick to tie the game for a final score of 5-5.
Top players: Both goalies came up big in this one but Turcotte was the busier stopping 31 shots, while Meslage (3+0) looked good offensively as well as Berubé (2+0).

Season series between Red Zone and Team Finland: 2-1 in favor for Red Zone.
Team Finland had a chance to close in on the two top teams while Red Zone wanted to reinforce their top spot heading for the two last weeks of the regular season.
The first period was a war of attrition as both teams kept on playing strong D and both goalies made the necessary saves. It was not due to lack of chances though as both teams created opportunities but nobody was able to capitalize until with 2 minutes left of the period. Team Finland got a free hit deep inside Red Zone half and the ball was played in front of the net and after a scramble, Michael Quigley was able to pin the ball in for a 1-0 lead.
The 2nd period was just 90 seconds old when Red Zone tied the game through Simon Leblanc and only 40 seconds later Red Zone was up 2-1 thanks to a shot by Stephane Laporte. From the following face-off the ball ended up in the hands of Bertrand Nepveu who was not able to distribute the ball to anyone quickly enough so a free-hit followed. Team Finland took a direct shot and after a few rebounds, Eero Piilokivi was able to tie the game with a back hand volley. A fourth goal was added in this 2 minute window of time as Richard Tetreault got the lead back for Red Zone. For the next 10 minutes both teams battled hard to score the next goal and with just about 7 minutes to go, Raka Bal turned his defender in the Team Finland corner and walked in for an easy shot for an all important 4-2 lead.
Team Finland pressed hard but despite creating good chances, but on this night the ball did not want to go in, as Nepveu, his posts and bad finishing kept the Finns from adding to the score sheet. Red Zone added two late goals to through J.P. Heon and Aymeric Neveu for a final score of 6-2.
Red Zone used their chances on the night, played well as a team while getting above average goal tending from Nepveu who must have felt good to get the win after struggling of late. The Finns played well as a team but fell short in the scoring department and league top scorer, Okko Niskanen, went scoreless for the first time since mid-November.
Top players: Goalie Nepveu on Red Zone while Janina Luoto played her best defensive game of the season for Team Finland.

February 16, 2012
Season series: El Fuego has won the 3 previous games vs Outcasts IBC but last game was tight finishing in 4-3 win for El Fuego.
The Fuegos were looking to close the gap to 2nd place to 1 point while for Outcasts it was a question of breaking out of their win less streak.
Both teams started with a lot of spirit and determination as they exchanged chances back and fourth while getting strong goal tending from Maxime Turcotte and Guoruey Wong.
It took until mid-way of the first before there was any action on the scoreboard when El Fuego got a free hit in front of the Outcast net. El Fuego's set-up duo was behind this one as Guillaume Lamy passed over to Francois Francois Bérubé who scored his 31st goal of the season (league leader).
Outcast kept their focus though and Charlie Simpkins kept on finding holes in the Fuego defense as he gathered an up court pass from Fabien Jeanneret and ran towards the net, while under heavy pressure from opponents, he was able to bury a beauty of a shot in the top corner for a well deserved equalizer. An exiting first period ended 1-1.
In the 2nd, both teams continued their inspired play, while not due to a lack of chances, made this one into a thriller.
With less than 5 minutes to go, it was once again Simpkins who made the difference as he challenged his d-man and was able to advance from the left side and hammer a hard shot past past Maxime Turcotte in the Fuego net.
El Fuego piled on the pressure but somehow the Outcast D and goalie Wong were able to keep the ball out of their net, despite several good chances for El Fuego.
Outcast win their first game in 2012 (and first since Nov.10) and gather perhaps some momentum for the upcoming playoffs.
Best players: Both goalies were excellent by keeping the score down plus some extra credit to Simpkins who lead his team offensively.

Season series had Team Finland on top 2-1 over Franco IBK.
Franco started this one with no subs with several regulars missing out while Team Finland was missing 2 regulars.
One minute in the Finns were on the scoreboard as league Okko Niskanen converted from Pekka Hujanen's pass but despite the early goal and massive domination it was Franco who got the next goal. Half-way into the period Jean-Thomas Brière flicked a high ball towards the net and Dominique Rivard was able to make the necessary touch for it to flow past the goalie.
Continued domination paid off however as Team Finland scored 3 goals (Eero Piilokivi, Ville Rasi and Claus Frostell) to close the period for a 4-1 half time score.
In the 2nd, things continued like it fin(n)ished in the first as Niskanen got his 2nd of the night just 12 seconds in. Michael Quigley added a 6th for his team on the PP and Team Finland jogged off this one with 4 more goals (2 from Hujanen and one each from Rasi and Jason Lemire) before the game was over.
Franco missed their chance to go top while Team Finland took back 3rd spot from El Fuego.
All players on Team Finland contributed to the victory while for Franco is was a night to forget.

February 14, 2012
It's been a tight series between Red Zone and Else's Innebandits so far with 2 games finishing in ties and the 3rd in 3-2 win for Red Zone.
Red Zone welcomed back Stéphane Laporte for this one while Innebandits fielded a roster with no subs.
The first period was typical of the season series as it went down as a 4-4 tie, with Innebandits holding the lead most of the time, thanks very much to an excellent Guillaume Rivet (a hat trick) as well as Samuel Archambault. Red Zone fought back and looked better the longer the period went, getting scoring from Aymeric Neveu 2, Laporte and Jean-Philippe Héon.
The 2nd period was 30 secs old when Innebandits took back the lead, with Rivet scoring his 4th. Laporte tied it up a minute later as he tapped in from close range from a beautiful long pass served by Simon Leblanc. Archambault scored his 2nd to get another lead for Innebandits in midst of heavy Red Zone domination. For the last 10 minutes of the period it was all about Red Zone as they tied on the PP through Heon and with 4 minutes left they took the lead for the first time in the match. It was Leblanc who served Manuela Ulli-Vanasse with a trade mark pass that she was able to tap in from close range, for her first goal of the season. Great timing!
Red Zone scored 2 more goals (Richard Tetreault and Neveu who completed his hat-trick) for a 9-6 win.
Red Zone take over top spot in standings while for Innebandits it was a night of what if's as they battled well without subs but ran ouf of juice in the last quarter.
Top players: Simon Leblanc (0+5) who quartebacked the offence and go just one point short of the overall scoring lead while for Innebandits it was very much about Guillaume Rivet (4+2) who had a a career night offensively.

February 9, 2012
Seasons series were 2-1 in favor of the Innebandits as Outcasts were looking to break their win less streak.
Outcast started in a positive fashion and had most of the scoring chances and it paid off just 3 minutes in when Bradford Holmes smacked a shot from a Peter Pfister pass for a 1-0 lead for Outcasts. Innebandits tied it up half way into the period when Beliveau shot from close range giving no chance to Guoruey Wong in the Outcasts net.
90 seconds later Outcasts were back on top as team top scorer, Charlie Simpkins converted with a one-timer from a nice pass by Holmes. Innebandits were not done however as they scored two goals to finish up the period, the first coming from Olivier Garneau-Proulx and the 2nd from Samuel Archambault, with the 3-2 coming just 8 seconds before the break.
Outcasts had an awful start to the 2nd when just a minute in, Garneau-Proulx used a defensive mistake to rack up the ball and score for a 4-2 lead.
Innebandits added a 5th through Beliveau with 10 minutes to go but Outcasts were not able to mount a comeback and the final score would be 5-2.
Another frustrating night for Outcasts, as defensive mistakes and ill-timed offensive opportunities made it easy for opponents while the in-form Innebandits go to 13 points, just 4 short of 4th place, with 4 games left of the regular season.
Top players: Archambault, who was behind most of the offensive plays for Innebandits while Fabien Jeanneret played a good defensive game for Outcasts.

Team Finland took on El Fuego in back-to-back games as El Fuego was looking for revenge from last weeks loss.
El Fuego started with immediate efficiency as they scored just 9 seconds in when a Francois Bérubé shot was deflected over the Team Finland keeper. The Finns were struggling in their defensive zone but were able to keep El Fuego from scoring until half-way mark of the period when Berubé once again scored, this time by tipping in a Guillaume Lamy pass from close range. 3-0 was a fact as Berubé completed his hat-trick putting the Finns in a difficult situation.
The Finns tried to bounce back and created chances but Maxime Turcotte in the El Fuego net was having a great night. But with 2 minutes left of the first, the Finns caught a break as an El Fuego defense man deflected a shot into his own net.
In the 2nd, El Feugo added a 4th goals when Pierre-Andre Chiasson was able to run around the Finnish defense to convert a beauty from close range.
Okko Niskanen reduced El Fuego's lead to 2 goals with just 4 minutes to go but the Finns were not able to get any closer despite pulling their goalie.
Final score 4-2 and El Fuego goes on to win the season series 3-1 and grab back 3rd spot from the Finns. Disappointing night for Team Finland who had their chances but were either stopped by splendid Turcotte (and his new gloves!) or by the posts while El Fuego must feel satisfied by this win.
Top players: Turcotte and Berubé (3+0) for El Fuego while Hinttala deserves credit on Team Finland.

February 7, 2012
Red Zone FC was up 2-1 in the season series over Franco IBK.
Both teams were missing key players for a 2nd week in succession (Gui Gosselin and Stéphane Laporte were away on Team Canada duty). That proved to be decisive for one of the teams on this top of the table contest.
Franco jumped the gun and scored just a minute in as youngster Brandon Cirino scored from a Jonathan Burnham pass. Same combo added a 2nd for Franco two minutes later and just 30 seconds after that Francois-xavier Charlebois scored a 3rd for his team and his first of the season, while Burnham got his 3rd successive helper. Both teams exchanged goals to finish up the period, with Charlebois scoring his 2nd and Jean-Philippe Héon opening the scoring for Red Zone.
Red Zone had to do something and they mounted a come back just a minute into the 2nd through Simon Leblanc and two minutes after that Olivier Normandin put the score at 3-4. Franco got the next goal however as Cirino completed his hat-trick and added his 4th 30 seconds later. Red Zone fought back once again as they got two quick goals from Normandin and Leblanc but not enough to make this a close one as Franco scored 4 unanswered goals including a completed hat-trick by Charlebois, making the final score 11-5.
A frustrating night for Red Zone, who had a defensive meltdown as well as several missed scoring chances while Franco maximized their chances and climb now back to the top of the table.
Top players: Franco has 4 key elements - quite an offensive output the trio of Burnham (1+6), Cirino (5+0) and Charlebois (5+1) while Jean-Thomas Brière played a solid game in his defensive end. Leblanc was once again the most dominant Red Zone player. Season series end at a 2-2 tie which could serve as a nice appetizer for a interesting meeting between the teams at some point in the playoffs.

February 2, 2012
In the season series, El Fuego has a 2-0 advantage over Team Finland.
Team Finland wanted to avoid another defeat to arch-enemy, El Fuego and they started well. Despite the early pressure it took until the 7-minute mark before the Finns were able to score as Pekka Hujanen was set-up nicely by Pasi Nurminen. 3 minutes later, league top scorer, Okko Niskanen added a 2nd for his team, set -up by Hujanen.
The 2nd period started great for Team Finland when Nurminen rushed up across the court to score a nice solo goal to put up his team with a 3 goal advantage.
El Fuego bounced back back some minutes later when Francois Bérubé scooped a rebound of the back boards giving no chance to Jukka Hinttala in the Finns net.
Just a minute later it was 2-3 as Marie-Eve Cadieux was able to take a shot from a scramble in front of the net and get her team back in the game for real.
However, a minute later, it took a Niskanen top corner shot to put a stop to the El Fuego come back as he scored with a powerful shot.
Michael Quigley added a 5th for the Finns from a goalie rebound and Niskanen completed his hat-trick with just 30 seconds to go to put the final score at 6-2.
Top players - Hinttala and Niskanen for Team Finland while nobody rose above anyone else on El Fuego.

In the season series, Franco has a 2-0 advantage over Innebandits.
Both teams came to this one with some spare parts to fill up the rosters due the regulars missing out on the night.
5 mins in it was Innebandits who converted first as Alex Dupont was given some space to round the net and pinch in the first goal of the night. It took only 15 seconds for Innebandits to add a 2nd as Oliver Garneau-Proulx scored. The rest of the period proved to be scoreless, but not lacking drama, as Franco were able to fend off 4 penalties (including a 3-on-5).
Innebandits were more efficient in the 2nd however as Franco was back in the box play on which Guillaume Rivet was able to score for a 3-0 lead and that just 1 minute into the period. With 10-minutes to go, newcomer LeFrancois, scored a 4th and his first MFL goal. Franco converted on the power play when Bruno Gosselin converted a one timer of a quick hit-in as brother, Marc-André Gosselin, arranged for the set-up.
Franco was not able to get closer than that though and with just 2 mins to go the last goal of the night fell to LeFrancois, who scored his 2nd to put the final score at 5-1.
Best players: Joe Cadigal on Innebandits, who made several big saves but also Dupont deserves credit for being a constant threat for Franco. Franco looked pale on the night but Marc-André impressed as usual.

January 31, 2012
On a snowy Tuesday night, Outcasts and Red Zone came to the game with their regular goalies missing as well as key players Stéphane Laporte (Red Zone) and Fabien Jeanneret (Outcasts) out.
Season series were 2-0 in favor of Red Zone.
Outcasts were first to score when Jacques Stadlin scored, nicely set-up by Charlie Simpkins. It took Red Zone 3 minutes to tie things up when Aymeric Neveu scored. Red Zone put in another gear and bombed the Outcast net with five more goals before the period was over and all that through five different scorers (own goal, Richard Tetreault, Jean-Philippe Héon, Simon Leblanc and Jonathan Fontaine-Duval). Talk about a team effort!
Nothing much seemed to have changed in between the periods as Red Zone continued to dominate and six minutes in, Leblanc scored three in three minutes. Simpkins pulled back two with the last of his goals coming with 7 minutes to go, but this game was already over by then. Heon and Neveu added two for Red Zone while Peter Walser got one for Outcasts to nail the final score at 4-11.
A seven point night for Leblanc (4+3) as he dominated completely on the court while for Outcasts it was a frustrating evening, where team top scorer Simpkins (2+1) impressed more than the others.

In the 2nd game of the night it was Team Finland facing off vs Innebandits, where the Finns had an upper hand in the season series, with a win and a tie.
Team Finland took the lead just 40 seconds in when Pasi Nurminen set up Jason Lemire with nice cross pass for an easy tap-in from close range. Just 10 seconds later!, it was 2-0 as Pekka Hujanen deflected a shot that trickled through Joe Cadigal in the Innebandits net.
The Finns continued to create chances and it paid off 4 minutes later when Eero Piilokivi scored with a shot from far out, very much helped by Okko Niskanen, who was able to totally screen the keeper.
Niskanen added a 4th for Team Finland from close range before Innebandits lighted up the scoreboard, thanks to a shot from Olivier Garneau-Proulx, who was given enough room and time to take a shot from mid range.
The 2nd period proved to a be a scrappy affair with more penalties than goals. S.Beliveau scored Innebandits 2nd as he was allowed to run in from the left wing and take a well aimed shot past Jukka Hinttala. With just 5 minutes to go, Michael Quigley gave the Finns another 3-goal cushion.
Shortly after, Team Finland had to face a 3-on-4 box play on which Innebandits scored through Samuel Archambault, who was able to walk in from the right and take a close range shot to put the score at 3-5.
Team Finland held on for the win.
Top players: both goalies, Cadigal for Innebandits, who had a solid 2nd period and Jukka Hinttala for Team Finland, who made some timely saves when most needed.

Thursday nights first game featured two teams that were looking for their first wins since November. Outcasts came reinforced with new (old) Fabien Jeanneret to help out the team while El Fuego was looking to
bounce back after being trashed the previous week. Season series were 2-0 to El Fuego before the game.
It took until the mid mark of the first before there was any action in the scoring department as El Fuego and their usual suspect, Francois Bérubé, flipped in 1-0 after dancing through the Outcast defense.
A few minutes later Berubé was at it again, this time with the help of a nice cross pass from Pierre-Andre Chiasson, for an easy tap in from close range.
74 seconds later it was 3-0 as Chiasson got hold of clearance and buried a shot behind a helpless Guoruey Wong.
Outcast mounted a comeback to start the 2nd period when Jeanneret shot a hard wrist shot past Maxime Turcotte but El Fuego replied with a quick goal through Guillaume Lamy to put the score at 4-1.
Outcast kept on fighting in order to come back but it didn't pay off until 4 minutes left of the game as Jeanneret scored his second of the night. Outcasts kept on coming and got a power play which they were able to
capitalize on through Guillaume Boivin-Dumais who swept in a shot from close range. Outcast pulled their goalie but El Fuego was able to hold on for 4-3 win. Top players for each team: Francois Berubé (2+1) and Fabien Jeanneret (2+0).

Monday night fight between two teams battling for the top spot!
Coming up to this game, Franco was win less vs Red Zone this season while Red Zone were unbeaten in their last six.
Red Zone was on top of things just 50 seconds in as Jean-Philippe Héon scored with a high shot. Just 11 seconds later, Marc-André Gosselin snapped one past Bertrand Nepveu to make it 1-1. Two quick goals was a sign of things to come. Red Zone seemed to go into a defensive meltdown as Franco added 4 more goals (including 3 more goals from Gosselin) before Red Zone got one back through Simon Leblanc. Jean-Thomas Brière and Héon both added one each for their teams just in time for the break. The score was 6-3 and Red Zone seemed to have some serious work to do in the 2nd. Franco was back at it to start the 2nd when Jonas Edvinsson snapped a 7th for his team. Stéphane Laporte made it 4-7 a minute later but Franco seemed to be on top of things as excellent Marc-André Gosselin scored his 5th and Franco's 8th.
A couple of penalties slowed down Franco's offensive but Red Zone was not able to take advantage. Both teams continued their offensive though as they exchanged goals and with just a few minutes left of the game Red Zone made a final push and got the score to 7-10 but too little too late.
An impressive offensive output from both teams in the best game of the season so far as Franco advanced to 1st spot in standings on the expense of Red Zone.
Best player on the night, Marc-André Gosselin (5+1) as Franco impressed offensively as a team while Simon Leblanc (2+2) impressed most on Red Zone.

January 16, 2012
It was time for a game between 2 hot teams of late, as Team Finland (no loss in 4 games) faced Red Zone (no loss in 5 games) and with a season record of 1 win each.
Team Finland had added 3 rookies to their roster for the night while Simon Leblanc was back for Red Zone after missing the game from the week before.
Red Zone took the lead 5 minutes in as Leblanc smacked a hard shot into the top corner of Jukka Hinttala's net. It took the Finns almost 8 minutes to tie the game as rookie Simo Valling deflected a shot in front of the net. Just a minute later Richard Tetreault put Red Zone in the lead with a nice set up from Stéphane Laporte. The Finns tied the game before the break through Jason Lemire.
Red Zone started the 2nd in an impressive way as Laporte scored after a solo effort and they continued the scoring by adding two more from Raka Bal and Leblanc. The Finns stormed back with 2 quick goals as top scorer Okko Niskanen shot a beauty in to the top corner from a difficult angle and a minute later Michael Quigley made it 4-5.
But with just 4 minutes to go Jonathan Fontaine-Duval scored the important 6-4 goal from a nice set up from Laporte. The Finns were not able to mount a comeback as time ran out.
Top player on Team Finland was goalie Jukka Hinttala, who had a busy evening and made several key saves, while for Red Zone it was very much Stephane Laporte (1+4) who was behind the offensive initiative.

January 12, 2012
Team Finland took on the Outcasts as both teams were looking to get a good start to 2012.It proved to be a typical floorball game with a lot of goals, attack in mind and some spectacular goals.
Team Finland was first to score as Pekka Hujanen and Okko Niskanen combo paid off. But it took only 20 seconds for Outcasts to tie through Jacques Stadlin. Hujanen added a 2nd for the Finns but Peter Walser tied for Outcast on the PP. Pasi Nurminen and Niskanen added one each before the break to give the Finns a 4-2 lead after 20 minutes.
The Finns started the 2nd period where they finished off the 1st as Niskanen added another goal before Walser converted again for Outcasts on the PP. The rest of the period both teams kept on scoring but Outcasts could never get close enough to worry the Finns. Final score 10-6 for Team Finland as Okko Niskanen scored 5+2, Pekka Hujanen 3+1 and Pasi Nurminen (on his birthday) got 2+3 while Outcasts Bradford Holmes got 1+3.

El Fuego and Franco IBK in the first big match-up of 2012 as both teams were looking to advance in the standings. Both teams have one win each in the earlier match-ups between the teams.
It proved to be a week of come backs as Dominique Rivard, making her comeback, scored the go ahead goal for Franco just about 4 minutes in.
Franco dominated much of the play but it was El Fuego and Francois Bérubé who tied it up with 9 minutes left of the first. Franco continued to press and it paid off as Marc-André Gosselin and Jean-Thomas Brière both scored to give Franco a 3-1 lead with both goals entering the net after being deflected by El Fuego's D. Bérubé was not done however as he scored his 2nd but Brière added his 2nd as well with Franco holding the lead 4-2 to end the period.
The 2nd period continued with Franco pressure but it did not pay off until 8 minutes was left of the game when Jonathan Burnham (another birthday boy) scored. Bérubé completed his hat-trick less than a minute later as El Fuego refused to give in and just a minute after his 3rd he added a 4th to make this a real tight game with just 5 minutes left. Burnham scored his 2nd of the night with 3 minutes to go and give Franco a 2 goal cushion. El Fuego was not able to get back and with less than a minute to go Marc-André Gosselin scored a beautiful lobb-goal as he shot from his side of the court to finalize the score at 7-4. With this result Franco move to 2nd spot, behind Red Zone and El Fuego drop to 3rd.

The Montreal Floorball League kicked off 2012 with a match-up between Red Zone and Else's Innebandits. Both of the earlier match-ups have ended in ties so a tight game was expected once again.
It took Red Zone only 35 seconds to get the lead as Olivier Normandin scored the first MFL goal of 2012.
Red Zone dominated the period but were not able to get through an excellent playing Joe Cadigal in the Innebandits net. Instead it was Oliver Garneau-Proulx who tied the game with a wrap around the Red Zone net mid-way through the first period.
In the 2nd period Innebandits got the go ahead goal just about a minute in with Asim Abbas releasing a low slapper that Stéphane Laporte could not stop. It was Asim's first goal of the season thus giving him a great start for 2012!
Aymeric Neveu tied the game for Red Zone mid-way in as Red Zone dominance finally paid off. The game looked to end up in a tie once again but with just 36 seconds left Jonathan Fontaine-Duval, who was making his MFL comeback on the night after almost a 3-year hiatus, made his comeback a great one as he won the game for with Red Zone's 3rd goal of the night.

Franco IBK was looking to go top of the table just in time for the holidays while Team Finland was looking for revenge for being outplayed last time the teams met.
The Finns got of to a great start as Claus Frostell converted from Okko Niskanen's pass for a 1-0 lead. It did not take long for Gui Gosselin to tie it up as he was able to run through the middle and take a high shot past Jukka Hinttala.
Team Finland's offensive weapon of the night proved to be the counter attack as Pekka Hujanen completed a natural hat-trick in less than 4 minutes and Michael Quigley added a 5th for the Finns a few minutes before the break for a comforting 5-1 lead.
Franco was expected to come back strong to start the 2nd but instead it was Team Finland who scored their 6th less than a minute into the 2nd.
The game was pretty much over at this point but Hujanen scored his 4th of the night, while both Frostell and Quigley added a 2nd goal each before Brandon Cirino scored for Franco to finalize the score at 9-2.
"On a été torché", said Franco goalie Daniel Lamire after the game, who had his least memorable game of his short floorball career. While Franco fell flat on this night, Team Finland's Okko Niskanen had a career night with 1 goal and 6 passes and goalie Jukka Hinttala had one of the best goalie performances of the season so far. With the 7 points in the game, Niskanen goes top in the league scoring with a total of 29 points.

A battle of the league bottom teams ends up with a win for Innebandits as they get their 1st win since week 1, while Outcast are now win less in 5 straight.
Innebandits got of to a great start as Nicola Rivet scored just 3 minutes into the game. Peter Walser tied it up for Outcasts half way into the period and just 4 minutes later, Peter was at it again as he gave Outcast a 2-1 lead. Vincent Meslage shot past Guoruey Wong in the Outcast net to make it a 2-2 game just in time for the break.
The 2nd period started in the same manner as the first as Innebandits scored again to take the lead through Francois Billard and less than 30 seconds later Nicola Rivet scored his 2nd of the game to extend the lead to 4 goals to 2 in favor for the Innebandits. The rest of the period was uneventful as neither team were able to add to the score.
Outcast must look forward to 2012 and hopefully some new additions to the roster while Innebandits can be relieved to get a win just in time for the holidays.

December 13, 2011
After a change in the fixture, El Fuego had a chance to revenge their 0-5 loss to Red Zone a few weeks ago. League top scorer, Guillaume Lamy, was back in the roster for El Fuego and so was Simon Leblanc for Red Zone.
El Fuego meant business from the get go as they overshot the Red Zone 6-1 half way through the first but failed to light up the scoreboard.
Red Zone had a chance to get on the board first as Simon Leblanc was awarded a penalty shot but he shot wide. However, just a minute later, Stéphane Laporte set-up Leblanc with cross pass who had no trouble converting this time around.
The 2nd started like the first but much more domination from Red Zone who could not capitalize on many excellent chances very much thanks to an excellent Maxime Turcotte in the El Fuego net. With 13 minutes left, Francois Bérubé used a defensive mistake to run through and shoot the equalizer past Bertrand Nepveu. A minute later El Fuego was on the PP but it was Red Zone who scored as it was Laporte's turn to use a defensive mistake for a 2-1 lead. With just 4 minutes to go Francois Berubé tied the game with his league leading 20th goal. El Fuego was able to fend a Red Zone PP at the end of the game for a 2-2 tie.

December 8, 2011
Innebandits come up short again and are now win less since the first week of season as Team Finland make a late come back to get a tie.
Team Finland converted a free hit on the power play through Eero Piilokivi who picked up a rebound from Pekka Hujanen's shot to give them an early lead. Innebandits came back strong thanks to their 2 new additions on the night, Alex Perron, who tied the game with a nice shot - and just a minute later the leading goal from Karl Meessen. Claus Frostell tied it 30 seconds later but Guillaume Rivet got the Bandits back in the lead just a minute before the break.
The 2nd period was uneventful for the first 10 minutes but the rest of the period was full of action. Frostell tied once again, with his 2nd of the night, for the Finns but it didn't last long before Vincent Meslage and Julien Thisdale scored to give a two goal lead for Bandits with just about 2 minutes remaining of the game. Okko Niskanen, team top scorer, would prove to be the hero for Team Finland on this night as he scored two goals to tie the game. Final score 5-5.
Big night from rookie Alex Perron who scored a goal and got 3 assist in his first MFL game.

El Fuego lose 2nd in row while Franco get their 4th consecutive win.
Once again, Franco showed up with a short bench, which have not been a disadvantage of late though, while El Fuego was missing league top scorer, Guillaume Lamy. The first period was even as both teams played well defensively with the Gosselin (Gui and Marc-André) combo opening up the score and rookie Guillame Tittley equalisizing for El Fuego. Two own goals for each team added to the score as they went to break on even terms.
The 2nd period was a classic floorball period, with a total of 9 goals and more open doors defensively. Jonathan Burnham got it going for Franco as they scored 5 unanswered goals before El Fuego found their fire to make the final score look respectable. Final score 8-5 to Franco.
Big night from Gui Gosselin who combined for 2 goals and 3 assist, while another Guillaume (Tittley) got his two first career goals for El Fuego.

December 6, 2011
Red Zone extend their unbeaten streak to 6 games against Outcasts, who are now win less in 4. Outcast got off to good start when they took the lead after 8 minutes, when Paul Mylchreest scored on a nice pass from Jacques Stadlin. Red Zone tied just 40 seconds later as Tetreault was able to shoot past Guoruey Wong in the Outcast net. Just a minute later Outcast was back in the lead when Peter Walser scored on a hard shot from nice set up by Charlie Simpkins. Stéphane Laporte scored two late goals, including a beauty from a Jean-Philippe Héon pass, to give Red Zone a 3-2 lead heading to the break.
In the 2nd Outcast tied through Nicole Hurtig, who shot in the top corner of Bertrand Nepveu's net. A minute later Fabien Jeanneret hit the top corner as well to give Red Zone the lead once again before Boivin-Dumais (top corner as well) scored to tie the game.
Like in the first, Red Zone scored 2 unanswered goals, both through JP.Heon - the last goal coming just 2 minutes before the end, to give them a 6-4 win.
Outcast must felt like they let this one get away as they battled hard but came up short on a night when 3 of their players scored their first goals of the season (Paul Mylchreest, Nicole Hurtig and Guillaume Boivin-Dumais).

November 30, 2011
Red Zone continued the recent dominant play as they extend their unbeaten streak to five games and Red Zone goalie Bertrand Nepveu notches the first shutout of the season. El Fuego, who entered the game without league top scorer, Guillaume Lamy and injured Louis Lapierre, came up empty on this night as Red Zone handed them their 2nd defeat of the season.
Red Zone spread their scoring on this night as four different players found the inside of the net and El Fuego added an own goal.
Red Zone dominated proceedings and got a relatively easy ride as El Fuego had trouble creating scoring opportunities and were mostly limited to shots from the outside. Simon Leblanc had another strong showing for Red Zone as well as goalie Nepveu who made the necessary saves when needed. Final score 5-0, which could have been more as Red Zone squandered several chances to add to the score.

November 30, 2011
Team Finland suffered 3rd straight defeat as defensive woes continued against Red Zone, who in turn are unbeaten in four.
The game was an evenly fought affair throughout the first period as both teams had open doors in their defensive ends but Red Zone had the upper hand as Simon Leblanc scored the 5-4 goal just one second before the break.
The Finns tied the game a minute into the 2nd period as Aleksi Kurkela was left open in front of the net. Red Zone scored 4 unanswered goals, the fourth just 3 minutes from the end and closed out Team Finland for the night. Final score 10-6.
Excellent performance from Simon Leblanc on this night who scored 2 goals while Stéphane Laporte, Jean-Philippe Héon and Aymeric Neveu also got two each. For the Finns, rookie Jukka Hinttala, scored a hat-trick.

November 19, 2011
Last time Outcast played El Fuego it ended in an overwhelming victory for El Fuego. This time it took only 90 seconds before El Fuego scored through Guillaume Lamy but only a minute later league top scorer Charlie Simpkins tied it up. For another 7 minutes both teams exchanged chances but El Fuego took over more and more of the play and scored 3 unanswered goals to go with a 4-1 lead into the break. The 2nd period continued with more El Fuego domination both on the court and on the scoreboard as they increased their lead to 7-1, including completed hat tricks from Francois Bérubé and Pierre-Andre Chiasson. Outcast scored 3 goals towards the end but could not shake or stir El Fuego on this night. Guillaume Lamy moved up to 1st spot in league scoring thanks to a 4 point night (2+2) while the Outcast team slide down to last spot in team standings, equal on points with Innebandits but with worse goal difference.

November 19, 2011
Franco came to play with another spare keeper and a short bench though consisting mostly of A-grade players while the Finns wanted to bounce back from their disappointing loss last week. Franco dominated from get go but it took them 8 minutes to score when Gui Gosselin used a gap in the middle to slap a hard shot past rookie goalie Jukka Hinttala. Jonathan Burnham used a couple of defensive mistakes to score two more for Franco before the Finns got on the board thanks to a quick counter attack that Pasi Nurminen converted. Okko Niskanen got the Finns within one goal just 3 minutes into the second but Franco scored 3 more as Guillaume Gosselin and Marc-André Gosselin combined in all the goals. Niskanen scored his second of the night before Marc-André completed his hat trick and secured the win for Franco. Final score 7-3.

November 11, 2011
Outcasts move to 5th and leave Innebandits in last in this bottom of the table match-up. Bandits scored short handed through V.Meslage less than 2 mins into the game to give them an inspired start. However, it would not last long as Outcasts scored 4 unanswered goals, including 2 from Bradford Holmes, in a 5 minute span, as Bandits goalie Joe Cadigal was literally left alone to defend a hungry Outcast attack. The period ended with 5-3 lead for Outcasts with Meslage notching a 2nd and also a 2nd goal from suprising J.Fuchs.
Innebandits offense was given a blow as team top scorer, Meslage, went in the penalty box. It seemed to give an advantage for Innebandits as Nicolas Rivet scored Bandits 2nd short handed goal of the night with a solo rush reducing the lead to 4-5. Bandits luck would be short-lived though as Outcast stormed back with 2 crucial goals through league top scorer Charlie Simpkins to kill off the game and a 7-5 win.

November 11, 2011
El Fuego beats Team Finland 7-6 in great come back. El Fuego scored already after 14 seconds thanks to a defensive mistake, one of many to come on this night, as Pierre-Andre Chiasson scored from close range. Guillaume Lamy added a 2nd just minutes later but the Finns fought back through Pasi Nurminen, Michael Quigley and Okko Niskanen for a 3-2 lead. Francois Bérubé equalized and scored a 2nd to give El Fuego 4-3 lead before the break. The 2nd period would prove to be as entertaining as the 1st. El Fuego got a 5-3 lead before Team Finland came back strong with two to even things up. With just 4 minutes left Eero Piilokivi scored to give Team Finland a 6-5 lead but the lead would be short-lived as El Fuego came back strong with two quick goals that proved to be decisive.

November 9, 2011
Last time these team met, in the season opener, it was all Red Zone in a 4-1 win but this time it was much more even. Franco scored a couple of nice goals in the first through Brandon Cirino and Jean-Thomas Brière in a period where Ethan Feigenbaum played his first game in goal and it looked promising for Franco going into the 2nd. 2 minutes into the 2nd, Red Zone was up 3-2 as Stéphane Laporte / Simon Leblanc (2-2) and Olivier Normandin / Richard Tetreault (3-2) combined for two pretty goals. Franco fought back midway through the 2nd and tied the game through Jonas Edvinsson (making a comeback on the night) but soon enough Laporte gave Red Zone the lead again. Both teams exchanged chances without scoring until 2 minutes left when Laporte scored the crucial 5-3 goal. Franco mounted a comeback and only 20 seconds later Cirino made it 4-5. Red Zone was able to hold off the last 90 seconds for the win!

November 4, 2011
El Fuego suffered their first defeat of the season (and the first regular season loss in over a year) as Franco IBK dominated both offensively and defensively in this 5-2 win. Marc-André Gosselin notched a hat-trick, including a couple of really nice one-timers and Jonathan Burnham scored two. The game was close on the scoreboard leading up to the end of first but a Marc-Andre - Jean-Thomas Brière combo gave Franco a 3-1 lead before the break.
In the 2nd Franco added two more before most impressive El Fuego player of the night, Cindy-Anne Carufel, scored her 2nd of the game, however just 12 seconds before the end making it too later for a come back.
With the win, Franco moves up to 2nd spot overall just two points from El Fuego.
Team Finland won a tight game vs Else's Innebandits 4-2 as both goalies, Joe Cadigal and Matti Ollila came up big. Innebandits took the early lead after David King-Ruel was able to score from close range. The Finns had most of the play and came back at the end of the period through a nice counter attack move which involved 2 direct passes as Pekka Hujanen converted for a beauty. Tight defensive play dominated the 2nd but Okko Niskanen gave Finland a 2-1 lead and added two more to complete a natural hat-trick at the end of the game while Innebandits scored their 2nd goal of the night from Jonathan Jubinville. Team Finland got their 3rd win of the season while for Innebandits it was their 3rd straight loss.

November 2, 2011
Red Zone beat Outcasts 8-5 and moves to 2nd spot overall. Outcasts came to this game inspired by their first win on the season the previous week and it really looked like they were meaning business as they won the first period 2-1, playing some excellent defense and getting big goal tending from Guoruey Wong as well as two goals from rookies, Christian Martel and Eric Alexandre. But this night would belong to Stéphane Laporte, who had played in goal the 4 earlier games, and now was back playing forward, as he scored a hat trick for a 5 point night. As good as the Outcast defense played in the first as bad it looked in the 2nd as Red Zone stormed back with 7 goals. The game was even up until 3 minutes was left of the game and in those 3 last minutes Red Zone scored 3 unanswered goals, including an empty net goal.

October 28, 2011
Outcasts got their first win of the season as they beat Team Finland 3-1 on a night where both goalies, Matti Ollila and Joe Cadigal, came up big. Team Finland jumped to a lead midway through the first thanks to Pekka Hujanen who whipped the ball in Cadigals top corner and kept that lead over the 1st period. In the 2nd, some defensive mistakes lead to 3 Outcast goals including a beauty by league top scorer, Charlie Simpkins. Despite a heavy pressure and power play from the Finns it was too little too late on this night.
In the 2nd game of the night, Franco beat Innebandits 4-1 in game that was a lot tighter than the final score shows. Franco got two pretty goals in the 1st period from a nice passing play by Marc-André Gosselin and Ethan Feigenbaum as well as Marc-Andre’s solo rush that he finished with a shot in the top corner. Franco added a 3rd goal early in the 2nd period before Innebandits got on the scoreboard through Julien Thisdale. Some untimely penalties cost heavily for the Innebandits as Franco scored a 4th on the power play and had to kill another 5 minute power play, making any chance of a comeback from Innebandits impossible.

October 26, 2011
El Fuego continues their winning streak with a 7-3 win over Red Zone. Red Zone seemed to have a big task on their hands on this night as they started the game with a short bench. The game was pretty even throughout the first period as El Fuego dominated slightly and Red Zone goalie Stéphane Laporte kept down the score at 1-3. The 2nd period is one that Red Zone want to forget as they committed some mistakes and El Fuego converted 3 goals on their first 3 shots putting the game away for good. most impressive players on the night; Francois Bérubé with 3 goals and Guillaume Lamy with 4 (2+2) points.

October 21, 2011
Franco IBK overcome Outcast IBC to grab their first win and hand Outcast their 3rd straight loss, winning 6-4. A reduced Franco IBK team was able to get a victory thanks to hat-trick from 16 year old rookie Brandon Cirino despite being down to one sub and another rookie in nets (Daniel Lemire). Solid play by Team Canada's Gui Gosselin contributed to the victory. Outcasts added league top scorer, Charlie Simpkins from El Fuego, but not even him could help Outcast to their first win this time.
In the late game, El Fuego kept their winning streak intact beating Else's Innebandits 8-5. Guillaume Lamy scored 5 goals as El Fuegos offensive was just too much for Innebandits on this night. The game was close midway in the 2nd as Innebandits mounted a spirited comeback and got to 4-5 before El Fuego exploded with a pair of goals that killed any ambitions that Innebandits might have had of making this game an exciting one.

October 19, 2011
Results from Tuesday night: Team Finland beat Red Zone 4-3. Okko Niskanen and Simon Leblanc each with a pair of goals for their teams and Pasi Nurminen with 3 assist on the night. October 11, 2008 - It's Thanksgiving weekend here in La Belle Province and what better way to celebrate than turkey and floorball. And not necessarily in that order! Thursday night's offerings were two Elite division match-ups. In Match One, it was a much-anticipated game between two undefeated teams - Royal and Red Phoenix. In the opening minutes, RP's high-octane offence stalled as Royal's defence put up a fight. Then, an early two-minute power-play opportunity for Phoenix did not produce any goals but plenty of action in the Royal zone. Royal held their own until five minutes left in the period when a patented Phoenix point shot from J.S. Plante found the back of the Royal net. Seconds later, Phoenix scored again and it looked like they found their groove. But Royals' Norwegian import Linn Nordahl cut into the lead when she was left alone in front of Red Phoenix's net to make it 2-1. Last year’s league MVP J.P. Binette then scored a magnificent strike on a solo effort that had him beat three Royal defenders before putting it past a sprawling Joe Cadigal. Dom Laporte then shaved into the Phoenix lead before halftime to make it 3-2. The second period was a tight, close game until J. S. Plante scored his second goal to make it 6-4, RP. After that, it was all Phoenix as their juggernaut offence clicked into gear, scoring four consecutive goals. Alas, Royal could not answer back as they were left playing mostly in their defensive zone. In the end, Red Phoenix devoured their rivals 10-4, with Plante (4G) and Pat Ducharme (1G,3A) each scoring four points and Patrice Pare having a feast with six points (4G,2A)! Royal spread out their scoring among four different players, and Joe Cadigal was no turkey in the Royal net, facing 40 Red Phoenix shots. In Match Two, the Outsiders hosted the Patriots, with both teams looking for their first points of the season. Another tight-checking game did not yield any goals until the ten-minute mark, when the Outsiders’ Jonathan Burnham broke the deadlock. The Outsiders made it 2-0 seconds later when Robert Augello notched his first of the season. Nick Massitti sliced into the Outsider lead a minute later and Joe Henein tied the game 2-2 with three minutes left in the first. After the break, the Patriots started to take more control of the game. Eventually, the Pats scored two more goals to build a two-goal advantage. Frustration boiled over the Outsiders, as they were twice penalized and many of their scoring chances thwarted by the Pats’ defense. Near the end of the game, the Outsiders made a last desperate attempt and David Cormier scored with less than 5 minutes left. But Joe Henein’s hat trick put the game on ice in the final three minutes to give the Patriots their first victory of the season, 5-3. Henein (3G) and Massitti (1G,2A) led the Patriots’ scoring, while Pat Cusson had a busy night stopping 25 of 30 shots. Thursday night was a feast for the senses and for the coming weekend, there was a lot to be thankful for. And floorball was definitely one of them. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

October 8 - The cool crisp air of October usually means one thing in Montreal. No, not the elections or politics. That would be a lot of 'hot' air. Actually, it means floorball at Cegep St. Laurent! With a "special" visitor from Toronto in attendance, Intermediate Division rivals Argon-18 and Young Guns met in the first match of the evening. The pregame pundits were predicting a blowout for Argon-18, seeing that two high-scoring players in Simon Leblanc and J.P. Binette were in the lineup and YG's top defenseman, Lauri Leppanen was out with an injury. The game started well for Argon-18, with J.P. Heon scoring on the power-play but YG held their own after that, using their quick outlet passes to keep Argon guessing. Then the Leblanc show took over, setting up Binette and Andrew Brown for highlight-reel goals. The Gunners closed out the first-period scoring, with Vinny Meslage scoring to keep the game close 3-1. Both teams traded early second-period goals but with Seb Meslage scoring at the 11-minute mark to make it 4-3, things really began to heat up. However, lack of discipline on defense by the Young Punks allowed Argon-18 to re-establish control of the game, rattling-off three goals to take a 7-3 lead. From there, the Bikers (Argon-18 is a high-end competition bicycle brand, for those who didn't know. I have a few myself;) cruised to 9-4 win. Binette (3G,1A), Heon (3G,1A), and Leblanc (1G,3A) all had four points and Guoruey Wong stopped 18 of 22 shots for Argon-18. The Meslage Bros., Vincenzo (1G,2A) and Sebastien (2G) led Young Guns, who had a decent game despite their inexperienced defense and goal-tending. In Match 2, the Outsiders FC held court with Royal for their season openers in the Elite category. The teams were off to a slow start, as both sides tried to out-maneuver the other. The Ousiders, with many returning league players, then began to take more control of the play and Royal, having three new players in the line-up, were not used to the game-flow (and some rules!). It wasn't until twelve minutes were gone when the game saw its first goal. Swedish import Niklas Fyhr was left alone in the slot and fired it past Joe Cadigal, who seemed busier than counterpart Pat Cusson in the Outsider net. Newcomer Alex Richard tied the score about a minute later for Royal but Matt Jeffrey put the Outsiders ahead 2-1 before the break. The second period saw a turnaround in ball control, as veterans Eero Piilokivi and Stephane Laporte took over for Royal. Using sound defensive plays that limited Outsider chances and pinpoint passing to generate good scoring chances, Royal scored five consecutive goals en route to a 6-3 victory. Fyhr had a great MFL debut, scoring two goals for the Outsiders, who had several scoring chances (and hit crossbars) but could not capitalize on their opportunities. Royals' Alex Richard had an even better MFL baptism, scoring three goals in his first-ever game. Laporte (3A) also contributed to the scoring, while Cadigal found some old Team Canada-form, stopping 22 of 25 shots. Now, go out there and exercise your democratic right - and vote floorball, not Harper!*

October 3 - While SOME chose to stay home to watch the debates on TV, the 2008-09 MFL season kicked-off last night at Cegep St. Laurent with the Patriots squaring-off with Red Phoenix in the Elite Division. There was much anticipation before the start of this match as to how the higher level of floorball would be like this season and it was obvious from the first face-off that the faster pace made for great entertainment! With only three minutes ticked off the clock, Red Phoenix got on the scoreboard with Patrice Pare's first of three in the game. Phoenix then rattled-off three more goals before the halfway point of the opening frame. Sensing an urgency to stop Phoenix's momentum, the Pats took a time-out to re-group. Their plan worked, as the Pats finally managed a few attacking plays to test Martin Belanger, who at this point of the match had little to do. Unfortunately for the Patriots, a distance penalty against them and the ensuing power play, which Red Phoenix capitalized on, shifted momentum back. Another goal for Phoenix a minute later made the score 6-0 at half-time. The second period began with the Patriots pressing, perhaps realizing that they had little to lose. The change in tactic opened up the game though did not result in the Pats making a stirring comeback but rather forced Matti Ollila to make several outstanding saves. Even a power play opportunity for the Pats did nothing to change the outcome. A 10-0 win for Red Phoenix was the score this night, with Simon Leblanc leading the charge and MFL scoring race with 5 points (2G,3A), along with J.S. Plante and Pare each scoring a hat-trick. Ollila was the hands-down bright spot for the Patriots, as he saved 28 of 38 Phoenix shots! The Intermediate game that followed saw the Innebandits (Great name, Carmen!) face Finecast in their season openers. Many did not know what to expect in this first match, with both teams having a mix of seasoned veterans and "green" rookies. From the start, it seemed that the Bandits had the control of the play, with Finecast looking a little disorganized in the offensive end. The Bandits took advantage and scored six minutes into the period and tallied twice more before the period was out. The second began with Pascal Turcotte scoring at 14:12 to make it 4-0 for the visitors. But when it looked like all was lost, Finecast mounted a comeback. With five minutes remaining and down 4-3, Finecast almost scored the equalizer but Sara Beha came up big with a late save on Pasi Nurminen's blast from the point to preserve the win. Guillaume Lambotte (2 points) added a late goal for the Bandits to seal their first victory 5-3. Turcotte (2 goals) and Dominique Rivard (1G, 1A) led the Bandits' scoring, while Peter Walser and Andre Bucheler both scored 2 points (1G,1A) for Finecast. There was no debate last night at Cegep St. Laurent: it was a highly-entertaining start to the 2008-2009 MFL season!
